This year marks the 77th anniversary of Operation Pedestal, better known as the Santa Marija Convoy. Many men and ships were lost bringing desperately needed supplies of food, fuel and ammunition to Malta in the darkest times of World War 2. In Melbourne, the commemoration will take place this Sunday from 11:30 am at the Shrine of Remembrance, followed by a procession to the Shelter of Peace in Birdwood Avenue for speeches and the laying of wreaths. It is organised by the Maltese Australian Association and the Shelter of Peace Committee. Benny Soler, president of the Maltese Australian Association speaks with Joe Axiaq about this year’s commemoration.
