Bonegilla – The Migrant’s Journey is a live show and now also a documentary by Director Simon Reich. He talks with Joe Axiaq, about how he edited the interviews from the live show into a documentary that has just been selected in the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival 2025. The migrants interviewed cover a broad spectrum of European countries including Malta, Ukraine, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Italy, and Greece. Each of them tells their war stories and that being the main reason for migrating. Many stayed in migrant camps such as Bonegilla.

The show was originally created with the assistance of a grant by the City of Melbourne, which allowed it to be performed for three sold shows in December 2023.

The premiere screening of the documentary was Friday 15 July 2025 at Cinema Nova in Carlton.
