First Nations women in the music industry have been using their voices for many years to speak up about various issues that affect First Nations people.

NITV Radio caught up with hip-hop artist Dizzy Doolan, curator and MC of the First Nations Women's Showcase, one of the highlights of the the upcoming 2023 Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA).

The two-day conference, awards ceremony and concert program in Meanjin/Brisbane on 26-27 September will bring together some of the industry’s top female practitioners, First Nations and multi-cultural artists, leaders, and diverse emerging talents.

The inaugural AWMA debuted in October 2018 in response to the chronic gender inequality in the Australian music industry as a platform to share ideas and celebrate the nation’s leading female creatives and professionals as dynamic essential contributors to the future of the industry.
