CSIRO and the BHP Billiton Foundation are on the look-out for outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) professionals who will inspire and lead the next generation of innovators.
A new award developed by the CSIRO is aiming to help promote an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person working in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields, to act as a role model for aspiring students.Their S.T.E.M ProfessionalAward will provide an opportunity for that person to receive $20,000 to put towards profile-raising and career-building opportunities to help them tell more people about their work.SBS Living Black Radio spoke with the young Aboriginal scientist the CSIRO's Karlie Noon who previously worked as a mentor on the CSIRO's Aboriginal Summer School for Excellence in Technology and Science (ASSETS) program. The school provides opportunities for high achieving Year 10 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, with interest in science, to explore the study and career options available to them in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.![]() ![]() ![]() | ||
