Nominated for the New Talent Category in this years National Indigenous Music Awards, It would be a surprise if Emily Wurramara wasn't nominated for an award. The release of the EP Black Smoke from Emily Wurramurra brings us her youthful sounds that take us to a place of peace, Back to another time.
Emily is from Groote Eylandt in the Northern Terrritory and she sings her music in her language from the Island, Anindilyakwa and English. This album brings us traditional sounds and strong cultural influences shared from her grandmother and the traditions brought down to her through their language.
Listening to Black Smoke, you can hear the sounds of the islands in her language and music as well as the fresh urban feel that stems from Emily's life growing up in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. The album sends out a healing. One, our hearts and our ears are calling out for in today's modern society.
