Australia's efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic have been boosted with the supply of an extra tens of millions of face masks for health care workers as well as millions of flu shots.

Authorities say the additional resources will help relieve pressure on medical services and could pave the way for the early return of elective surgery and IVF procedures.
