The Turnbull government has given its first hint as to what might be contained in the 2017 federal budget. Housing Affordability is set to be one of the key elements.

The upcoming federal budget is a chance for the Turnbull government to reset its policy priorities.

Earlier this week, Treasurer Scott Morrison offered a glimpse at the government's potential economic direction.

According to him, housing affordability will have a special place including a package that will have an impact on both home-buyers and renters.

Speaking on talkback radio, Mr Morrison said the budget will include a housing-affordability package that will have an impact on both home-buyers and renters.

Meanwhile, the Victorian government has come up with its own idea for tackling housing affordability. It says it will abolish stamp duty for first home buyers on properties valued up to $600-thousand.

Premier Daniel Andrews says that will make a big difference for those just starting out.
