Mandy Quadrio’s sculptural installation explores buried Australian colonial histories

Mandy Quadrio is a Brisbane/Meanjin-based contemporary artist of Palawa heritage

Mandy Quadrio id one of ten contempered artists whose works are featured in the 2023 Yalingwa Between Waves at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (3rd of July - 3rd of September 2023).


For Between Waves, Mandy Quadrio created a multi-piece sculptural installation that responds to buried Australian colonial histories that have dominated her Tasmanian Aboriginal people since invasion and colonisation.

In a conversation with NITV Radio, Mandy Quadrio shed more details about her art practice which is informed by two major influences in her life: the disappearance of her mother from Naarm, which was never investigated resulting in a complete erasure from her life.

Her art is also influenced by the history of her people, the Palawa people of lutruwita, who have always lived under the myth of extinction.
