A batch of graduates recently completed a Mental Health certificate IV program specifically tailored to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Jasmine Brady is one of the latest graduates. She is passionate about this course as it is delivered in a totally different way from all other courses that shes done before.
She particularly commends two of the most outstanding Galang Place trainers named Jenny and Fred.
Jenny is a non-indigenous woman who has been around Aboriginal and Islander people for many years, she says.
This long term contact has equipped Jenny with an unparalleled understanding of the intergenerational trauma experienced by First Nations Peoples.
According to Jasmine Brady; Jenny is absolutely deadly in identifying a lot of the issues affecting First Nations peoples and empowering students to contribute to the solutions.
Fred, the second outstanding teacher, is a Koori man who has a deep connection to the community and understands their needs thoroughly.
Jasmine Brady believes that the teachings from this mental health program, especially tailored to the needs of First Nations communities, will help her provide better service to her clients.
Clients will also get high value as the program is tailored around their cultural and socio-economic background.
