On this special episode of NITV Radio we reflect, remember and honour a powerful moment in our history, the Walk for Reconciliation across the Sydney Harbour Bridge on 28th May 2000.
25 years ago, over 250,000 people walked together in a united call for truth, healing and justice for First Nations people. It was a part of Corroboree 2000, a week-long national event that placed Reconciliation at the heart of the nation’s conversation.
In this special episode, we hear from two inspiring women who were there on the day — Frances Rings, proud Kokatha woman and Artistic Director of Bangarra Dance Theatre, who was reporting live for SBS on the day of the walk, and proud Bundjalung woman Aunty Rhoda Roberts, SBS Elder In Residence and trailblazer in the arts and media.
Together, they reflect on the significance of that day, the stories that shaped it and what Reconciliation means today 25 years on.
NITV Radio also takes a look back as some archival interviews from that day 25 years ago.
