"They call it a thinking persons film, it puts someone into space and allows them room to breath and make up mind about what story they have just been told" Samantha says.


ST Kilda Film Festival is championing Indigenous women's stories with that program First Nations Women in Film and Samantha Laughton is taking on the real and surreal in her short film Fence. Samantha's film Fence is describes as a "thinking persons film" tackling tough truths of manual labour, violence and lived experiences of Aboriginal women in the harsh country, whilst also showing that fantastic with dream sequences and storytelling.

Samantha not only wore the Directors hat, but also wrote, produced behind the camera, she also got in front of the camera sharing with NITV Radio how the process was incredibly collaborative, "its so essential having that strong foundation, we never do it alone, its not a one man show" Samantha says.
