In this NITV podcast we take a look at contemporary song lines and what we really think of Captain cook through the lens of the film documentary film 'Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky'.

Contemporary song lines are something that is creating new sounds yet at the same time the song lines they are ancient and have always been existing since time began for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The event of Captain James Cook’s arrival didn’t stop this countries’ song lines from continuing and now it’s been 250 years since the arrival of the so-called “first fleet” which sailed upon our shores and there has been celebrations and commiserations. Now new modern-day song lines have been produced to help tell the story of how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people really felt about Captain Cook and his endeavours. A story that is also told, through images, voices and modern-day song lines by established and emerging Indigenous Musicians in a new documentary film titled ‘Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky’ now available to watch on SBS on Demand.
