The Beyond the Bars radio project at 3CR Community radio Melbourne has been running for nearly 20 years and raises important justice issues for Indigenous people which are shared by the men and women locked up behind bars.
Topics discussed are culture, family, connection to country and language. Personal stories are shared through conversations, spoken word, poetry and music.
And another radio podcast broadcasting, on the outside is the Bad Boys podcast which is a daily breakfast podcast show presented by Shayne Brian and Darren Carver. And although neither of them is indigenous, they have been worried about the fact that Indigenous Australians are – reportedly - the most incarcerated people in the world.
The Bad Boys podcast show highlights their own concern about high recidivism rates within the Indigenous community, as well as current justice issues, lack of programs for prisoners and rehabilitation for Indigenous people.
