The CEO of the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) believes that the Royal Commission into the Northern Territory's juvenile justice system, as it is currently set up, will be counterproductive.

Muriel Bamblett, CEO of VACCA, said that focusing solely on the 22 children at the Don Dale juvenile detention centre fails to recognise nationwide systemic failures of the children protection system.

According to the CEO of VACCA, the Commission as it is currently set up also fails to address the issues of impoverishment and disempowerment which are part and parcel of the systemic failures.

The CEO of VACCA also condemned the Australian newspaper for publishing a cartoon thats offensive for First Nations people.

According to Ms Bamblett, the situation was further exacerbated by the fact that this cartoon was published on the same day as The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day (04/08/2016).

This is the largest national day when First Nations People celebrate their children
