First Peoples Melbourne Art Trams 2026 celebrates First Peoples art, culture and storytelling, launching as part of RISING festival.
Leading the roll-out is the Legacy Tram by an artist who has made a significant contribution to First Peoples art history - Wadawurrung Elder and senior artist Aunty Marlene Gilson OAM. Gilson’s multi-figure paintings reclaim and reframe histories of Country, embedding cultural knowledge and storytelling into the public realm. Her work, exhibited from Ballarat to the Venice Biennale, brings a powerful intergenerational perspective to the project.
From Tuesday 2 June, the six new trams will hit the tracks and remain there for 12 months as a city-wide public exhibition that conveys the expansive possibilities of First Peoples futures.
