Some of these illegal migrants also have families in Australia and are waiting it out till their child turns 10 and acquires citizenship, the internal government report states.

An internal government report accessed by The Daily Telegraph says more than 60,000 foreigners are living illegally in Australia. Most of these illegal migrants are tourists and students who have overtayed their visas. The Department of Home Affairs now wants Australian authorities and people like Landlords, Real Estate Agents, Day Care operators to verify visas before renting houses and enrolling their children in childcare. They also want tougher screening for people who want to open a bank account, get a drivers licence or obtain a WorkCover licence to work on a building site. The report states over 18,750 illegal migrants have lived in Australia for 15 years and the officials claim they have not been able to detect the black-market migrants. A quarter of these illegal migrants came from Malaysia or China, but 5170 are Americans and 3680 are British.
