There are calls for half-a-million homes to be built to tackle Australia's housing affordability crisis.

As the latest data shows a slowdown in the housing market, the sector is calling on the federal Government to take action to keep people from sleeping on the streets. Three thousand houses went to auction last week, the second-busiest week of the year. The latest statistics show the housing market is slowing but residential property prices in the capital cities still rose five per cent in the year to December. It's not relief enough, though, for the more than 100-thousand Australians who are homeless.
