The independent inquiry will explore the practices of SBS and the ABC, including the way they compete with the private sector and whether it is appropriate. The inquiry was announced in August last year after the Turnbull Government struck a deal with Pauline Hanson's One Nation party in exchange for support for media reforms. At the time, Senator Hanson said, in buying the rights to major sporting events, the ABC and SBS were moving into areas that impacted commercial television stations.
