Migration agents say hundreds of their clients are panicking after realising they no longer have the income to bring their parents to Australia.

Now, SBS has learned the Greens will attempt to reverse the changes.

Melbourne accountant Yi Cai (yee KYE)  thought she had met every requirement when she helped her mother apply for a parent visa nearly three years ago.

With a well-paid job, the 25-year-old easily met the Government's income requirements for sponsoring parents and was confident her case was nearly at the top of the queue.

But earlier this month, (april)  the Turnbull Government suddenly changed the rules.

"I feel so hopeless now. All my three years' time waiting has been wasted."

Under the old rules, a single person who wanted to sponsor his or her two parents needed an annual income of around $36,000.

Now, the same person needs to prove annual earnings of $87,000.

A couple sponsoring two parents needs a combined income of $115,000.

Yi Cai says she will not meet the new requirements and expects to be rejected.

And she is not the only one.

Three migration agencies in Sydney and Melbourne have told SBS they have been inundated with calls from hundreds of concerned clients in the queue.

They say many have been waiting for years.
