The Turnbull Government is creating a new visa aimed at competing with other countries for what it calls high-tech skills and talent. Companies will be allowed to sponsor migrants for jobs with a salary higher than $180,000 per year.

The Australian government says it's responding to global competition for high-tech skills and talent. The so-called Global Talent Scheme will be a pilot scheme from the 1st of July for twelve months.

Established businesses with an annual turnover of more than four million dollars will be able to sponsor highly-skilled and experienced individuals to come to Australia and work on a new four-year visa.

The Business Council of Australia says the scheme could help Australian businesses expand into new markets.
