According to UNICEF, 57 percent of Afghan girls are married under 19 years of age.


In Afghanistan, the common marriage age is between 15 and 16 years. Underage marriage is the major cause of deaths and violence for the underage married girls. In Afghanistan, the bad culture, poverty, and lack of religious knowledge are the major causes of underage marriage. According to UNICEF, there are 700 million girls who are underage married.
