Recent survey shows that Aboriginals and Torres Straight islanders are the first people of Australia with the history going back 40-60,000 years. The European Colonisation of Australia has had a significant, ongoing and frequently negative impact on Australia's first nations groups, leading to genocide, loss of traditional lands, policies of assimilation and forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families. In spite of this the Aboriginal community continues to survive and remains a living culture. Mujeeb Muneeb has more about Australia's Aboriginal communities and you can listen to the full report here.
