Professor Bijan Samali
Professor Bijan Samali is Professor of Structural Engineering and Program Director at the University of Western Sydney (UWS). Prior to joining UWS, Professor Samali held a Personal Chair in Structural Engineering at UTS since 1999. He is the author or co-author of over 450 scholarly publications (including over 120 journal publications), on a wide range of topics in the areas of structural engineering, structural dynamics, vibration and motion control, wind and earthquake engineering, bridge engineering, damage detection and health monitoring of structures including keynote addresses and invited papers. He has also been involved with several major projects as a specialist consultant over the years. He received his Doctor of Science (DSc) degree in Structures and Dynamics from George Washington University, USA in 1984.In an interview with SBS Persian, Professor Samali speaks about one of his initiatives in using bamboo to make quake-proof houses and save lives.
