Beautiful Persian Songs with a Flavour of Jazz
TaraTiba
Tara Tiba, Iranian singer who lives in Perth, Western Australia, was born in Tehran, Iran in 1984. Shortly after the female singers were prohibited from performing in public, Tara began her musical journey as a child studying Western classical piano. At sixteen she developed an interest in Persian music, embarking on seven years of vocal training in the classical Persian 'Radif' system, under one of the countrys most prominent singers, Hengameh Akhavan. This age-old oral transmission from master to pupil accesses the deep cultural tradition of Iran's classical music, inspiring Taras ongoing musical journey up to the present day. Although an architecture graduate, Tara has decided to devote her life to music. In 2010, she recorded Mooness, a set of seven songs featuring the collaboration between Tara Tiba and multi-award winning pianist/composer Hooshyar Khayam. However due to ongoing prohibition of female singers in the public domain, it was unable to be released. Moving to Perth in 2012, Tara undertook a jazz course at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and in the following year formed her band featuring both Persian classical and jazz musicians.Through collaboration, Tara extends the applications of Persian improvisational tradition into wider musical fields, in search of broader communication with an international audience. Tara is accompanied by a talented band of classical Persian and jazz musicians: Reza Mirzaei(Saz-long neck middle eastern lute/Guitar), Laura Corney(Saxophone), Kate Pass(Double Bass), Alex Reid(Drums) and Saeed Danesh(Daf/ Tonbak). Tara will perform in WOMADelaide Festival in Adelaide, SA on March 6-8.
