Hesam Kamalipour is a PhD Candidate and Research Assistant in Urban Design at the University of Melbourne. He is also a Doctoral Academy member at the Melbourne Social Equity Institute. His research focuses on the challenge of understanding the morphologies and incremental transformations of informal settlements in a global context by exploring multiple case studies of informal settlements and upgrading processes in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and South America. His current research interests include informal urbanism, urban morphology, and incrementalism. Hesam as a member of a delegation of University of Melbourne (UoM) scholars has participated participate in Habitat III the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. The conference was last held 20 years ago, which led to the adoption of the Istanbul Declaration on Human Settlements and the Habitat Agenda.
