The Senate has defeated the federal government's proposed changes to the Racial Discrimination Act. After hours of debate, Labor, the Greens and some crossbenchers voted down a bill to introduce widely-criticised amendments to the wording of section 18C of the Act. The outcome also rules-out the addition of a so-called 'reasonable person test' to the legislation.
