Ministers have spent a week openly arguing the case for allowing young people to tap into their superannuation to help build a home deposit.
Dr Hewson has told Sky News .. Malcolm Turnbull needs to put a management strategy in place.
"My solution, and it may not be transferable, is to give everybody a job, make them feel important in the policy development process. Internally. Kept them so damn busy they didn't have time to do all this stuff, and the ones you didn't like you sent them off overseas. You can manage people. It is an issues management issue and a challenge. It's a challenge to manage your team to set the standards, enforce the standards, enforce the discipline."
A crossbench senator says he can't understand why the federal government has made housing affordability its problem - when the states levy things like stamp duty and land tax and allow land release.
The past week has seen the government openly debating issues including allowing young people to access their superannuation to help build a home deposit.
Liberal Democratic senator David Leyonhjelm has told Sky News .. the levers the federal government has at its disposal aren't all that useful in terms of housing affordability.
"Why the hell is there a debate at all concerning the federal government? The main drivers of housing affordability and we are really only talking about Sydney and Melbourne - no one thinks the price of housing in Townsville or Hobart or even Perth where they are falling is an issue. So we're talking Sydney and Melbourne and for as long as I can remember, certainly back in the days when I bought my first house in Sydney, there were people saying they are way too expensive, the government ought to do something."
