What is a podcast?

Podcasts are on-demand audio content. You can listen to a podcast on your smartphone, iPod, tablet or computer. SBS has a range of podcasts in English and in language.  All SBS Radio content is also made available as podcasts, meaning you can listen to your favourite shows whenever suits you best.

How do I listen to podcasts?

The easiest way to listen to a podcast is using your smartphone.

If you have an iPhone, you already have a podcast app installed on our phone. It’s called “Podcasts” and has a purple icon.

If you have an Android phone, you will have to download a podcasting app. There are many to choose from, including Pocket CastsOvercast and Podcast Addict, to name a few.

Once you have an app, search for a show by its title. You can choose which episodes to download and if you subscribe to the show, your phone will automatically download new episodes as they become available. If you’re worried about your data limit, you can adjust the settings to make sure podcasts will only download on Wi-Fi.

The same applies to tablets: iPads come with the “Podcasts” app pre-installed, you will need to download a podcast app on to Android tablets.

You can also listen to podcasts on you laptop or desktop computer. Most podcasts have a website where you can listen.

SBS App

All SBS Podcast and Radio content is available on the SBS Radio app (available for free in the App Store and Google Play).  Just click "explore" and browse by genre.

What’s so great about podcasts?

Podcasts offer a wealth of content from around the world. There is a huge range of podcasts available, which means you’re sure to find some that interest you. Podcasts are entertaining and informative and because podcasts are on-demand, you can listen to them whenever and wherever suits you best. Podcasts are best consumed on your daily commute, while you’re doing the washing up, on long car/train/plane trips or whenever you have time to yourself.
