Do we know these stars?
The first ambassador for the whole championship is Igor Akinfeev, famous Russia and CSKA goalkeeper. He holds five titles of domestic league champion and the UEFA Cup 2005. Each participant city will have their ambassadors like Kaliningrad represented by a three-time Olympic champion in synchronised swimming Natalia Ishchenko. Alexei Nemov, the star of gymnastics with four Olympic golds and the international recognition for his Fair Play represents Saransk.
Yekaterinburg has a cohort of distinguished and prominent people to promote the tournament. Pavel Datsyuk, a hockey star who started his career in Yekaterinburg and now holds two Stanley Cups and a World champion title. The company of sport stars entered a rock musician and the lead singer of a famous Russian band ‘Nautilus Pompilius’ Vyacheslav Butusov.Their ambassador mission for Yekaterinburg shared composer Aleksandr Pantykin, and the midfielder for Zenit and Russian national team Oleg Shatov. Turns out there are a few of sport stars shaping Yekaterinburg sport image. The four-time Olympic gold medallist in swimming Aleksandr Popov together with biathlon five-time world champion and Olympic champion Anton Shipulin have made the list of the city’s ambassadors for FIFA 2018.Another city that has its ambassador mission is Rostov-on-Don. One of them is Varteres Samurgashev, the Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling champion and two-time world champion. He is joined by TV-presenters Dmitry Dibrov and Victoria Lopyreva, who also holds the title of Miss Russia 2003.
The ambassadors who will represent the best of sport and culture in Russia and promote the tournament for other cities will be chosen in the coming future.
