Andrej was born in 1962 in Košice, former Czechoslovakia. From 1980 until  1985 he studied journalism at Leningrad State Uni, presently St. Petersburg University and as he confesses set record during this time by  burying three General Secretaries of USSR Communist Party Central Committee. Beside this, he also worked at the Leningrad TV studio, at Leningradskaya Pravda newspaper, was the correspondent of the Moscow Izvestiya and took part in the organising committee of the Izvestiya Cup of Ice hockey in Luzhniki stadium. On return to Czechoslovakia, he worked as the sports reporter of Pravda newspaper, and sports departments of Slovak television and radio. Andrej fluently speaks Czech, Russian, Polish, Serbian, Croatian, Hungarian and German. So after arrival to Australia, and starting work for SBS Slovak he was highly regarded as the sports correspondent at large international sports competitions covered by our radio. He covered Football World and European Cups and in World Championship of track and field athletics. In Melbourne at the Gymnastics World Championship in 2005 and a Swimming World Championship in 2007, Andrej Bucko was a part of organising committee as interpreter for the Russian athletes. Twice he covered games of the World and European Cups in Ice hockey for SBS. In 2005 at the Davis Cup, final Croatia meet Slovakia, and Andrej made history, calling the game on mobile phone as direct cross for the SBS Croatian program, but to his frustration, Slovaks lost. For SBS Russian Andrej Bucko reports sport for about 10 years, and we are happy to offer him a microphone again for the two weeks of exciting tennis at Australian Open. Experience and sports connections of Andrej Bucko allows him to get content and even speak with   athletes who usually are not really keen to give interviews.
