Ageing in Australia Expo 2017 will provide an opportunity for people to find out about the range of support services available to them and their families as they age, and ask questions of aged care services relating to their care and well being.
"Over 50 organisations will promote aged care, health, government, advisory and advocacy services." said Ms Petrov for SBS Serbian.
The aged care system is complex. It is especially difficult to understand for people who speak languages other than English.
Language services (interpreters) will be provided to assist with communication. According to 2011 census, 96,000 Victorians over the age of 55 speak English ‘not well’ or ‘not at all’. The aim of the Ageing in Australia Expo is to present information about aged care and the support services available in the preferred languages of the people who attend.
Interpreters for the following languages will be available ALL DAY:
- Mandarin
- Cantonese
- Croatian
- Serbian
- Italian
- Polish
- Vietnamese
Over 800 people are expected to attend the Expo. Majority will be over the age of 65 and will be from a non-English speaking country of origin.
This is a free, open to the public event.
