Ana Ivanovic called it a day. Best ranked Serbian female tennis player has decided not to play for Serbia any more. She informed Serbian Tennis Federation (TSS) and Fed Cup team captain Tatjana Jecmenica Jevtic with an email, where she stated negative media and public comments about her as the main reason to quit.
TSS tried unsuccessfully to dissuade her, as Ivanovic firmly stayed by the decision.
Serbian head coach Tatjana Jecmenica Jevtic expressed regret about the decision, acknowledging that the national team is "much stronger" with Ivanovic's presence, but honored her for "everything she did for Serbian Fed Cup team".
Ivanovic, former world number 1 and Roland Garros champion, had her Fed Cup debut back in 2006 against Slovenia, playing in 17 ties in total, with 20-9 score. After losing in the final of the World Group against the Czech Republic in 2012, Ana played in only 3 ties, with the main goal to fulfil the Olympic norm.
Serbia is weakened before the World Group II Play-off match against Belgium. For the tie in Belgrade, on 16-17 April, Jecmenica has called Jelena Jankovic, Aleksandra Krunic, Jovana Jaksic, Nina Stojanovic and for the first time talented Olga Danilovic (15).
