ANZAC Day in Belgrade

The Australian Embassy in Belgrade has held a commemorative ceremony on Tuesday 25 April, at the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Belgrade to commemorate ANZAC Day, the National Day of Remembrance. Belgrade is the final resting place of 28 Australians and 15 New Zealanders killed in battle while serving in this region during the two World Wars.

Acting Mayor of Belgrade Andreja Mladenovic has paid tribute to the Anzac spirit at the dawn service at the  Commonwealth War Cemetery in Belgrade.

The Commonwealth War Cemetery Belgrade was created to receive the remains of British and Commonwealth casualties brought in from more than sixty small burial grounds and from isolated sites all over Yugoslavia.

Belgrade War Cemetery contains 483 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, including escaped prisoners of war from Italy and Greece.
