This year’s multicultural health week will be focused on carers, especially carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
In Australia, 674,300 carers (25.7%) were born overseas, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ survey in 20121. In the Carers NSW 2014 Carer survey, approximately 1 in 5 carers identified as being from a CALD backgrounds3.
Anyone can become a carer at any time. A carer can be a family member, friend, neighbour, or other community member who provides support and assistance to another person without payment.
