Serbia to host Australia in FED Cup play-offs

Two national teams will meet first time ever in the competition history and winner will compete in the second-tier of women tennis next year, while the beaten side will be relegated to the respective continental zone. It's still unsure if Jelena Jankovic and Samantha Stosur will be available for the fixture, scheduled for April 22 and 23.

Serbia will host Australia in the FED Cup World Group II play-offs, on April 22 and 23 this year, with the venue and surface yet to decided.

Two teams will meet first time ever in the competition history and winner will compete in the second-tier of women tennis next year, while the beaten side will be relegated to the respective continental zone.

Earlier this month, Serbia won the Europe/Africa Group I tournament, by beating Estonia, Bulgaria, Israel and Poland in consecutive matches. On the other side, Australia lost against Ukraine (1-4) in the first round of World Group II and now will take on young Serbian team to secure a place in the same tier of FED Cup.


Last weekend, both Serbian and Australian team played without the best ranked players, Jelena Jankovic and Samantha Stosur. It's still unsure if this big names of female tennis will be available for the fixture in April.
