A new financial complaints authority ((Australian Financial Complaints Authority)) is being launched today ((Thur)) in the wake of the banking royal commission.

The new independent body will allow Australians to seek compensation if they believe they have been treated unfairly by banks, insurance and superannuation companies, as well as other financial services providers -- without going to court.

The Australian Financial Complaints Authority's independent chair, the Honourable Helen Coonan, says the body will play an important role in restoring trust in Australia’s financial institutions.
