A 27-year-old Bangladeshi man with a homemade bomb strapped to his body has set off an explosion at a New York commuter hub during rush hour.
The man wounded himself and three others in what New York mayor Bill de Blasio is calling an attempted terrorist attack.
Police say the suspect in the incident at the Port Authority Bus Terminal was identified as Akayed Ullah, a United States resident from Chittagong in Bangladesh.
He received burns and lacerations, while three other people, including a police officer, suffered minor injuries.
Police say the weapon was based on a pipe bomb and fixed to the suspect with zip ties and velcro.
Mayor de Blasio says the incident could have been much worse.
