That’s stumps on Day Two, with Australia fighting back determinedly to be 4-165 off 62 overs.
It comes as no surprise that Steve Smith is leading the revival with 64 off 148 balls but Shaun Marsh’s unbeaten contribution of 44 off 122 balls comes as a pleasant surprise.
This is the eighth time he has been recalled to the Australian side and that by definition speaks of a man the selectors cannot make up their minds about.
There have been moments today where he had looked particularly scratchy; yet at other times he has played in almost imperious fashion.
That’s how he needs to continue tomorrow because the Australians are still 137 runs in arrears with only six wickets in hand.
