A re-elected coalition government is promising to set aside $1 billion to help protect the Great Barrier Reef from climate change and poor water quality.
The money from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation's fund will offer long-term concessional loans to support projects that reduce the runoff of fertilisers and sediment.
It will also allow for installing more energy and water efficient irrigation systems and upgrading coastal sewage plants.
It comes after the coalition twice failed to abolish the CEFC - a policy Mr Turnbull's predecessor Tony Abbott took to the last election.
Mr Turnbull says it's an important step building on previous initiatives.
