Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa arrived at Katunayake, Bandaranaike Airport to leave the country last night (11 July).

He had arrived at the 'Silk Route' departure terminal at the Airport, which is a special paid lounge service of the Sri Lankan airport aviation Authority that is dedicated to stamping passenger passports and collecting luggage on behalf of the passenger. But upon his arrival, the Immigration and Emigration Officers have taken steps to withdraw from their duties.

Accordingly, it is further stated that former minister Basil Rajapaksa has not been able to leave Sri Lanka.

In the meantime, the Sri Lankan Immigration Officers' Association states in a statement that considering the current situation in the country, it has decided to withdraw from the 'Silk Road' passenger clearance activities from midnight until further notice.
