The boy, a 14-year-old from Iran, was allegedly raped while held in detention on Nauru as a 10-year-old.

His mother is suing the federal government and the detention-centre operators. Lawyers say the boy suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression and anxiety, suicidal tendencies and other issues.

He and his mother arrived by boat in 2013 and were taken to Christmas Island, before being transferred days later to Nauru. In September and October of 2014, lawyers allege, an older detainee raped him three times.

The boy and his mother were flown to Australia after complaining about the alleged assaults.
