Damage from Cyclone Debbie has cut all roads to the north Queensland towns of Bowen, Airlie Beach and Proserpine, but there have been no reports of injury from Daydream Island in the Whitsundays, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said this morning.

Some 58,000 homes are without power.

The Queensland premier says economic losses from Cyclone Debbie are huge, as emergency crews try to get into affected communities to assess the damage.

At 3am on Wednesday morning the Bureau of Meteorology downgraded Debbie out of the cyclone category to a tropical low, bringing sustained winds of 55km/h with gusts of up to 85km/h.

Heavy rains are still expected as it moves southwest, with a severe weather warning in place.
