The Sri Lanka Army, in a statement issued from its headquarters, said that administrative formalities relating to the pension of disabled soldiers who engaged in a protest this week, are being attended to and will be completed by February 2017.
The agitating disabled soldiers are those who have volunteered to retire before their term of service (12 years), and were asking the President to intervene to grant them a pension, instead of an allowance.
The disabled soldiers currently receive a monthly payment from the Sri Lanka Army and a disability pension in addition, applicable until the age of 55.
Following two days of agitation by the disabled soldiers, the President yesterday ordered the disability pension granted the soldiers until age 55 be extended to a lifetime.
The President had ordered that the disability pension - paid until the age of 55, be given to the disabled soldier through their lifetime.
