The New South Wales government is making a last-ditch effort to stop a 24-hour rail strike on Monday (Jan 29) as commuters already start facing disruption from a limited train service.

An overtime ban means services today and tomorrow (Thurs, Fri) will be cut by nearly half, with trains operating on a Saturday schedule.

Members of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union have also voted to go ahead with a proposed 24-hour strike on Monday (Jan 29), over pay and conditions.

State Transport Minister Andrew Constance says the industrial action is unfair to commuters.
