6 suspects have been sentenced to 10 1/2 years of rigorous imprisonment each for assaulting EPDP leader Douglas Devananda at Kalutara Prison in 1998.

Emil Kanthan and 9 others were acquitted.

The verdict was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe today (30).

The Attorney General filed this case against 16 suspects including Emil Kanthan.

Kanthan was the Finance Head of LTTE for North and East.

MP Douglas Devananda was attacked with a sharp object at the Kalutara prison on 30th of June, 1998.
