Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg admits it will take years for his company to fix its problems.
Following revelations about the way British firm Cambridge Analytica used the site, and users' data, for political purposes, Facebook is taking intense criticism for its role in election meddling.
It's also been accused of negatively affecting society more generally through privacy violations.
In an interview with website Vox, Mr Zuckerberg says Facebook has run into problems because it was too busy in its early life conecting people, rather than thinking of the consequences of how it was doing so.
But he says the site is already coming up with ways to fix the problems, such as hiring more people to work on security-related issues.
