The federal opposition is promising to make temporary work visas even harder to access, if it wins government.

It's in response to the federal government's move to abolish the 4-5-7 visa program and replace it with two new temporary skills shortage visas, with new restrictions on foreign workers, including tougher English testing.

Opposition leader Bill Shorten says a Labor government would more than double the fees for temporary work visas.

And he says he won't support Free Trade Agreements if they allow Australian companies to employ foreign workers over locals.
