Latest fines which enforced for six traffic violations in Sri Lanka.

The fines for six traffic violations including drunk driving will be increased to Rs.25,000, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva says.

The Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association, Gemunu Wijeratne, said they also agreed to this following a meeting held with Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Ravi Karunanayake on Monday (21/11). 

Earlier, Private bus operators threatened to strike urging to withdraw the proposal to increase the minimum fine for traffic offences to Rs 2,500.

Accordingly, a Rs.25,000 fine would be imposed on the following traffic violations. 

  • Drunk driving
  • Driving without vehicle insurance
  • Driving without valid licence  
  • Overtaking from the left side
  • Speeding 
  • Driving illegally at a railway crossing
