The Australian Energy Market Operator says New South Wales is at risk of long-term blackouts unless energy company A-G-L strengthens its commitment to replace the Liddell coal-fired power station.
In a report, the A-E-M-O says an extra 850 megawatts of power are needed to ensure reliability in N-S-W following the closure of Liddell.
A-G-L outlined plans last December to address a predicted 1000 megawatt gap in electricity capacity following the closure of the 1970s-era power station in 2022.
