The New South Wales Police Commissioner says the NSW lockdown restricitons are likely to last for 90 days.

Commissioner Mick Fuller made the comments on Thursday morning saying the new restrictions were necessary to help curb the spread of coronavirus in NSW which is reporting the highest rate of confirmed cases across the country.

Australia's death toll now stands at 21 with 10 of those deaths in New South Wales.

Commissioner Fuller says enforcing tough self-isolation measures across the country was an essential part of flattening the spread of COVID-19.
